A Meat-lovers Dream

Feeling like a quiet evening & good food, we accompanied our friends (and our lovely neighbours) to the Living Room.

It’s a small little spot, tucked away in a house just set back from 17th Ave. In the summer, there is a massive patio with giant fireplaces and stand-alone heaters to keep guests comfortable as they chat long into the night.

Inside, guests are seated in comfy chairs set at big wooden tables. A roaring fireplace glows against the side wall, and food is served at a slow pace that encourages conversation between dinner-mates.

The night was started with an espresso cocktail concoction – shots of espresso and Kahlua combined in a tall glass and poured over ice. Accompanied by a straw, the goal was to drink the entire thing in a few rapid-fire sips.

Each chip was quickly loaded up with heaps of vibrantly pink and red tartare.

Slowly the appetizer was demolished and the empty plate removed from the table.

The lights were dimmed and entrees followed.

Tender and juicy Black Angus Beef Tenderloin dipped in a merlot demi glaze, fingerling potatoes, and crispy green beans.

Meaty duck paired with rice noodles, duck confit & foie gras spring rolls and topped with a mango chutney.

Beyond tender pulled-wild boar ham placed in a bed of maple pepper glaze, and accompanied with heaps of soft buttery mashed potatoes and crunchy-sweet thumbelina carrots.

Each meal tasted just as delicious as it looked.

After a bucket of green-tea, we were too full for dessert.

We settled the bill and were promptly handed our jackets as we headed out back into the night.

If you’re looking for a place to relax, enjoy the company and have an incredible meal, this is the spot to go. The atmosphere is so cozy and the staff are exceptional. But keep in mind, it’s not the kind of spot where you are in and out in an hour. The setting is made to encourage appetizers, entrees, and desserts for a full dining experience. The interactive dishes are a must!
