Before I start on my travel posts, there is an amazing local brand that I want to share with you first.
As much as I have my worldwide favourites and my department store go-tos, if I can find something special that supports local businesses, I’ll shout it from the rooftops ten times louder.
And, Rollo Towel Co is no exception.
Allison (or Al for short), started her company merely months ago, selling these uber soft, massive circular towels – with unique details like fringed edges and colourful patterns.
And while there are similar companies around the world offering similar selections, her price points are excellent and the personal touches really make it that much more special.
I chatted her up over coffee, learning all about why she started Rollo, her hopes and dreams, and what’s in store.
And, all of it sounded awesome.
As a mom of four, her business gives her a little bit of “me” time, and the chance to grow something from the ground up. Working from home, once her kids head off to school she spends her time becoming social-media savvy, staging photo shoots, and developing new designs for future Rollo lines.
I walked away with my very own Rollo – in the lollipop pattern – blossoming with summer colours and begging to be used.
So, my crew (aka Sophie and Cole) and I took it to a few spots around town, ready to relax and really put this new find through its paces.
This included unpacking my summer essentials for a bit of a tan in Lougheed Park.
Organizing a spread of treats to watch Shakespeare.
And, taking my Rollo out to the farm in order to stay warm on a cloudy afternoon.
The colour and circular shape is completely unique to anything I’ve seen in Calgary, and one of the reasons why I love this product so much.
Plus, with the towle’s large width, you can easily seat two people on it – or perhaps put down one pretty wicked picnic party spread.
In fact, I was so eager to give it a go, that I stashed it in my suitcase and have brought it all the way to the Netherlands. Whether it’s the beach, a field, or just a patch of grass, its versatility comes in quite handy and it’s relatively lightweight.
For now, Rollo’s got four wicked patterns – three colourful ones as well as a classic back and white version, but in the coming months a few more unique patterns will be rolled out.
Hurry up and grab yours now! #rolo
