Friday Favourites

I’ve put myself on quite a tight budget lately – mostly saving up for a big European vacation, but also because I’m getting to that age where I would like to have a decent savings account, or perhaps a car.

What that means, is that I’ve been doing a lot of window shopping and online browsing. My personal favourite trick is to load up my shopping cart – and then exit the page. It gives me somewhat of the same excitement about selecting and buying things, without actually pulling the trigger. I admit, it’s not the best, but it helps.

Anyway, I’ve been working up quite the list of favourite items and on this gloomy Friday morning, I thought I would share a few of them as we move into the fall season.

1. Anything Cobalt.

This colour is always a personal fav – and it seems like it’s an industry favourite, yet again, for this fall. I admit, I broke down and purchased this cozy and stylish cobalt sweater-dress – but I was also swooning over this cobalt blouse, this cobalt dress, this other cobalt printed dress, and these cobalt pants. BR has certainly brainwashed me well. (BTW – they have some pretty great sales on right now if you’re tempted). The pop of colour and form fitting fabrics make these pieces so tempting for the fall season, both for casual settings and the office. They look perfect for layering with rich reds, mahoganys, greys, or blacks.

2. Fall Scents.

Having the right perfume never goes out of style. This past summer I read “How to be Parisian Wherever You Are”, in which it states that a women should find her signature scent by the time she’s 30. I’ve still got some time, but now I’m on the hunt for that perfect one. I always like a new scent for fall – preferably something that is a little more dark and sultry. My current favourites are Armani Prive Amethyste, Do Son, and L’Ombre dans l’eau. But, I’m still a fan of Jo Malone’s classic English Pear & Freesia (PS – they’ve also got a nice wood sage and sea salt one for the gents). They’re pricey, which is why I haven’t made a purchase – but that doesn’t stop me from hoarding samples every time I visit Nordstrom.

3. Lace.

During one of my searches, I went down a rabbit hole of luxury lingerie. I spent hours pouring over the gorgeous bralets, sleepwear, and underwear sets on Journelle, Cosabella, and Eberjey. I even took a peak at La Perla, before realizing that it was nowhere within my reasonable price point any time in the foreseeable future. Anna and I at least had some fun sending each other our hypothetical purchases and swooning over some of the bodysuits. For me, the crème de la crème is Agent Provacateur. The colours are rich, the materials are lacey and luxurious, and the styles look like the perfect fit for any body.

One day, while browsing through Holt Renfrew, I decided to stop into the AP boutique and try on an item or two. Boy, was that a mistake. I fell absolutely in love with the Selena bra – black lace with rose gold lining. It was incredibly comfortable and I loved the fit, even under a pain t-shirt or a dress shirt. It made me feel like a million bucks. The price was a little too high (a week’s budget worth), but I must admit I’m still thinking about it weeks later.

4. A tablet.

My macbook is getting quite old and slow, and after 5 solid years of service, I’m starting to look into other options. I love how light tablets are, and there are some great keyboard versions that are great for travelling. I recently viewed the new LG tablet and I was impressed with the colour and functionality. Plus, you could purchase a keyboard which wrapped up ever so small that you could just toss it into your purse. But I must admit, I’m still an Apple lover.

5. Printed Pants.

I can’t get enough of printed pants. They’re so much more fun than the usual office attire, and they look great with a stylish belt and pressed dress shirt. One of my colleagues has a pretty envious collection, so I’ve been doing a lot of browsing lately. Once again, Banana Republic seems to have a bunch to meet my needs, but sizes are going fast (specifically these and these). I’ve also spotted a few others around town that I’ve been coveting like this pair from Club Monaco or this pair from Nordstrom.

6. Boots

Fall means a new pair of boots – it always does. I’ve already taken a peak around, and I must say the collection at Club Monaco is pretty enticing. Between these pumps and these leather ones, I’m counting up my pennies. But, I think I’ll snag a pair from Sole Society this year, since they’ve always got trendy styles for less (check out this one).
