Ever since I walked by the chic renovated beauty parlor, Esme, I’ve wanted to head in. But, my nails haven’t always been the most beautiful (or the longest). A life-time nail-biter, I’m usually a little hesitant to pop in for a mani, thinking that I’ll either be laughed at or that it will be a waste when I start biting again 5 minutes later.
But, the shop was so beautiful – and their Instagram photos were so enticing – that I made the exception. And I’m happy to report that neither of my silly fears came true. In fact, my nails have been so soft and pretty that I’ve been almost 3 weeks without biting.
The interior is calm and soothing, with black soft benches, printed pillows, and flowers…lots of flowers. Between the scent pods and the flowers, it literally smells like heaven (or what I imagine heaven smells like). The ladies were speaking in soft hushed tones, and relaxing music was playing in the background as I was guided to my seat and offered a refreshment. It being a gloomy and rainy day outside, I went for an earl grey tea and sat back and relaxed before my appointment.
They’ve got a variety of healthy snacks as well, but I was a little full from my morning cupcake (whoops). Lise-Marie, one of the Esme ladies, has a certificate in nutrition so she’s been developing a line of holistic treats to offer guests while they’re pampered. This time, there were energy balls with hemp seeds, pumpkin seeds, and coconut oil – as well as a key lime tart and seasoned popcorn.
I looked through the selection of nail colours, all toxin free, and selected a shiny mauve as I had a wedding later on in the evening. In no time, my hands were being massaged and lathered in lotions, while my nails were shaped, filed, and painted. I kept glancing at the pedi stations, thinking it would be a blast to head in with a few friends.
The vibe at Esme is chic and soft – the perfect oasis away from the hustle and bustle of 17th Ave (without having to actually leave 17th). You don’t need to stick to just getting your nails done either – they’ve got an array of beauty services like eyelash extensions, waxing, and makeup applications. Plus, come September, Lise-Marie will be offering nutrition consultations (complete with meal suggestions) and sugar cleanses for the brave. There’s also a flower bar if you want to pick up a few blooms on the way home (come on gentleman, we all make mistakes) or if you’ve got an event requiring a few florals. There were some particularly gorgeous pink and white bunches being assembled, but I was too late to snap a pic so you’ll have to take my word for it.
Pop on it for a visit or book your next service online and let me know how you enjoyed it!
