I took a little weekend trip to Toronto to catch up with some friends and family. Seat sales are a wonderful thing aren’t they?
It started with dinner with my bros at El Catrin.
It’s quite the trendy spot in the heart of Toronto’s distillery district. Reservations are practically mandatory if you want to snag a seat – but beware, this isn’t the kind of place where you can just “pull up an extra chair” for any unexpected guests.
We arrived pretty early so we did a little exploring through the area.
The menu is tapas so we selected from a variety of Mexican dishes and dug in family style.
While waiting, I took the opportunity to glance through the non-alcoholic drinks and gleefully spotted Jarritos. Seriously, these things are my jam.
^ Love me some mango ^
We indulged in the fresh house made guac and buckets of tortilla chips.
Grilled Cornish hen with red rice and black beans. The chicken was SO MOIST – crowd favourite for sure. But beware – you better like cilantro!
Fish tacos. Crunchy battered soft fish, topped with a heaping of ‘slaw.
And Mexican style chorizo with avocado, black bean puree, and tomatoes all stuffed onto a large corn tortilla. An authentic Mexican dish bursting with flavour and spice.
^ That’s a mans dish right there ^
They have an epic patio for summer night chills which is seated on a first come first serve basis. A pretty wicked spot if you ask me!
^ Sibling love <3 ^
