Who doesn’t love free stuff?
Last week while I was scanning through my Instagram feed full of shops, beauty lovers, and fashionistas – I spotted a great little event happening at Nordstrom. Well, maybe not “little”
The Beauty Trends Insider event is where patrons can stop into any of the Nordstrom beauty counters and learn about upcoming trends and new products in the beauty industry. What this really means is: Free treatments and Samples galore.
I took advantage of the appointment system and booked myself a brow fill at Anastasia and a facial at Amore Pacific. Arriving early, I scoped out the empty counters and made a plan.
Now I didn’t just run around picking any sample I could get my hands on. I tried to focus on products that I normally wouldn’t try (usually because of price) so that I could test whether they were really in fact, worth it.
I was pretty intrigued by their contour kit, which provides a selection of various dark and light shades to give you those coveted high cheekbones. They also offer some pretty sweet brow templates which can help you achieve the perfect shape.
Next, I headed on over to Jo Malone – a luxurious UK brand with only 9 distributing locations in Canada. Now that’s exclusive. I had been eyeing their classic glass perfume bottles and elegantly packaged candles for quite some time but never had I actually stopped in to check them out.
Anna & I were provided with a consultation to find our favourite scents, and then a tender hand and arm massage to test them out. I chose the English Pear & Freesia body lotion (but the Nectarine was a close second!) which smelled both floral and enticing, and then topped it off with the Osmanthus blossom perfume. The scent was so luxurious and sultry, and no joke, I had a few of the beauticians later on ask me if I was wearing Jo Malone. I spent the rest of the day smelling my arm like a fool.
We then headed to Amore Pacific for a “lux facial”. They coated my skin in cleansing oils, toners, moisturizers, and eye creams. My favourite products were the Eye Essence and the luxurious brightening face mask.
The mask is a two-step product – a bucket of moisturizing gel and a plastic/gel mask to seal it all in. You leave it on your face for 10 minutes (no talking!) and then remove. I noticed the effects the most the next day when my skin was still shining and full of light.
^ so sexy, I know ^
The hefty price tag ($150!) is a pretty good deterrent from me purchasing the one-use mask, but I am seriously in love with it. I could really see if coming in handy after a night out or perhaps before a big event. As well, the eye essence rollerball did a great job decreasing the dark circles under my eyes, and it’s something I would use daily.
The other moisturizers were good, but I still found that I needed to apply hand cream when I got home in the afternoon, so they weren’t worth the splurge in my mind. But hey, when else can you test close to $400 in products for free? No complaints here.
Feeling fresh faced, I headed back to Anastasia to squeak in a quick brow fill, where I was reassured that my eyebrow shaping was on point. It’s always a boost of confidence to hear affirmation that you aren’t wildly off track!
And then, on to my favourite counter. Diptyque. I just can’t get over their original scents or the Parisian influenced packaging of each bottle of sultry perfume. I had already resolved to purchase a candle, something I had been coveting for quite some time. But, the amazing staff still helped me select the right scent and provided me with a few goodies to try.
Around this time the counters began to fill as women (and men) made there way through the aisles. Everyone loves a little attention once in awhile.
Although my skin was glowing, I felt a little bare wandering through the beauty counters – especially since I was handing out blog business cards like it was my job… So, I asked the UBER helpful Christian from Amore Pacific which makeup counter I should try to attend. He recommended Giorgio Armani since the products are light and natural and then proceeded to book me a spot.
My beautician gave me the perfect natural look using their luminous liquid foundation, blush, eye pencil, eye shadow, bronzer, and gloss. The products that stood out to me were the liquid foundation and the gloss. The foundation really did add a level of illumination to my skin and it was quite light. I usually just wear a BB cream so it was good to see that something with a bit more coverage doesn’t have to cake your face up. The gloss was a bit sticky, but the colour and shine were incredible and it seemed to last fairly long.
Feeling a bit tuckered out we resolved to hit up one final counter – nails.
^ Isn’t that lip colour fantastic?! ^
I managed to manoeuver my way into a few more samples from Kiehls and La Mer before calling it a day. It was super fun to try out a bunch of products without making the price commitment – and I’m looking forward to testing a few more out at home.
I’ll be posting a video shortly of all my samples in case you’re wondering!
Even if you aren’t a beauty lover, a day of pampering is something I never snuff my nose at. Watch out for this event next year – or follow Nordstrom on facebook for info on other events!
