Today’s post is one I’ve been meaning to write for quite some time. Although the outfit may not be new, it’s all about my favourite trick to making any (or at least most) outfits more work-appropriate for that conservative office.
Enter: the black long-sleeve shirt. Yes, you could technically wear white, blue, or grey – but, black is not only much easier to match with any pair of tights and shoes, but it always looks classy.
If you haven’t figured it out by now, my best tip is to wear your black long sleeve under your dresses, tank tops, etc. It obviously works best with dresses that have a bit of black in them, but I’ve worn it with others that don’t.
Adding the layer underneath gives sleeves to your dress and covers up those shoulders, without losing your figure. I used to wear blazers or sweaters over top, but I would get frustrated because they took away from the shape of my dress and they were just so restricting. But no longer.
And if you’re thinking, doesn’t that make your outfit feel so bulky? The answer is no. A slim cut shirt works best (and go for a v-neck if you can – that way you can easily hide it under any type of collar). I usually tuck mine into my tights so that my shirt doesn’t ride up every time I get up and walk around.
BTW, I love the cut of this dress. It is what most stores seem to call a “fit and flare”. It cinches in at your waist, and then flares (duh) out over your curves. Hiding any of those troubled bits, and highlighting your slimmest part. In the end, it not only slims but elongates your figure, and for us shorties, that is always a welcomed thing.
